Michael Carrick now on West Ham United radar to replace David Moyes

Dean Jones has shared that Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick is on the radar of West Ham as they continue to consider David Moyes’ future at the club.

A decision has not yet been made on Moyes’ future, but with his contract up in the summer and no new deal on the horizon, it seems more and more likely he will leave at the end of the season.

Carrick, meanwhile, has seen his Middlesbrough side rack up nine wins from their last 11 games despite a difficult start to the season, including a 1-0 victory against top-of-the-league Leicester on 11 November.

Jones was speaking to GIVEMESPORT on 11 November when he shared: “My expectation would be that they look to be forward-thinking.

“Unless West Ham suddenly find themselves in crisis and need crisis management, that’s the only time I could see them going for somebody with huge experience as their next appointment.

“I would expect them though to go for somebody who’s younger, more forward-thinking and is more in tune with the way that the game is heading in the next 10 years, rather than how it’s been for the last 10 years.

“That’s what I would be thinking. Carrick is a really interesting one, but we have to see which direction his career goes in right now. But he’s definitely somebody who is on West Ham’s radar.”

Carrick would be a good choice

It has become clear in recent weeks that part of the Hammers’ consideration when it comes to moving on from the Moyes era is the style of football. With the attacking flair they have going forward, the feeling is Moyes doesn’t get the best out of his side.

Carrick, meanwhile, is a forward-thinking manager who favours attacking football and getting the best out of flair players as was largely seen last season when Cameron Archer and Chuba Akpom were firing on all cylinders on Teesside.

He would also suit the vision of a long-term plan at the London Stadium, with his age and relative lack of experience signalling a new direction as the club and young players could evolve alongside their new boss.

There is still plenty of time to go between now and when the board will be forced into making a decision, but if the Hammers continue on their run of bad form, that decision may be forced earlier than anybody had expected.

In other West Ham news, the club have received a boost in their chase for a Brazilian star.
