Michael Brown raves about Jarrod Bowen after ‘unbelievable’ West Ham United victory v Tottenham

Former Tottenham midfielder Michael Brown has raved about Jarrod Bowen after his performance in the 2-1 win for West Ham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 7 December.

Brown labelled Bowen “excellent” after his performance, claiming the game had everything as the Hammers walked away from North London with all three points from their London rivals.

Bowen put the Hammers’ level as he capitalised on a chance that fell to him in the box, before putting pressure on a short back-pass which led to the ball falling to James Ward-Prowse to slot home.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live [7 December, 22:17], Brown gave his assessment of the Hammers’ win: “A terrific game. It had absolutely everything. Spurs were sensational in the first half, they wanted to run forward and create. Great desire and quality.

“You wondered if West Ham could react but then it was the classic away performance, waiting for their chances. Jarrod Bowen was excellent and Ward-Prowse got the winner.

“An unbelievable game of football.”

West Ham earned their high praise

Brown is right – Bowen was excellent. He was largely quiet for the first half of the game, but as soon as that ball spilt out to him in the box, you had no doubt about the end result. From there, his energy levels doubled.

His pressing and work off the ball was emphatic and relentless, forcing the Tottenham defence to act quickly and often rashly rather than the composed and accurate style they had become accustomed to in the first half of the game when West Ham sat back.

There was a clear shift in mentality when Bowen found the back of the net, proving once again why he is so important to David Moyes’ team, leading from the front and consistently scoring crucial goals, especially away from home where he has scored in every game this season.

It was an incredible result, and one the Hammers fans will be talking about for a long time as they got one over on their bitter rivals despite the compliments and praise flying their way so far this season.

In other West Ham news, Michail Antonio was wowed by one player after the game.
