Michael Brown left baffled in new David Moyes sack verdict at West Ham United

Michael Brown has admitted that he has been left baffled by the suggestion that David Moyes should be sacked by West Ham United.

The Hammers boss picked up a third consecutive Premier League win against Arsenal on Thursday 28 December to help the Irons climb to sixth in the table, having already qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

While initial suggestion is that West Ham are keen to extend Moyes’ stay at the London Stadium, BBC Sport pundit Brown has admitted that he cannot believe that the Hammers have not already secured his future beyond the end of the season.

Speaking on BBC’s Football Focus (30 December) he said: “That’s amazing isn’t it, they were up against it at Spurs but managed to get an away win so they get performances. Then they’ve got that inconsistency where they’re not necessarily winning all their games.

“But if we talk about David Moyes, the situation, out of contract at the end of the season, he’s sat in sixth the supporters not necessarily understanding what they want.

“He cannot do anymore for that football club and how on earth he’s not been given a new contract, I keep saying it. How he’s not the future of West Ham I do not know.”

Get it done

All indications seem to suggest that West Ham are preparing to tie Moyes down to a new deal and after an impressive few weeks in the Premier League, the Hammers board almost have no choice.

The Scotsman has managed to take the Irons from strength to strength throughout his tenure and this season has been no different as he has made them a force to be reckoned with both in the Premier League and Europe.

Some supporters may well be pining for a more attacking and exciting brand of football that utilises the attacking talents at the London Stadium, but the style implemented by Moyes has proven effective even if slightly unremarkable.

Hopefully, West Ham will sort Moyes’ future out sooner rather than later as the current uncertainty isn’t good for anybody involved. As Brown suggested, the Scotsman is the best option for the Hammers, both for now and in the future.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers board have already put “severe” plans in place in case of relegation this season
