Media reacts to ‘smart’ Jarrod Bowen cameo in England win vs Latvia

West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen continues to put his case forward for a starting role at the World Cup next summer.

Bowen has struggled to convince Thomas Tuchel so far, but his latest display will surely have the England boss that he can be a genuine option.

The West Ham star had little impact against Wales, but he did not let that performance affect his next appearance for the Three Lions.

Bowen showed Tuchel exactly what he can bring to the national side with a lovely cameo in the win over Latvia.

Media react to what West Ham star Bowen did in England win

West Ham ace Bowen notched an assist for England after coming on as a late substitute in the 5-0 win over the minnows.

The Three Lions secured qualification for the World Cup and Bowen will surely have a place on the plane for the tournament next summer.

The Standard handed the Hammers star a six out of 10 rating, saying: “Assisted Eze’s goal with a smart turnover of the ball and then the right pass to pick him out.”

The Independent gave him a seven out of 10, saying: “Linked up nicely with Anderson and was nearly played in by the Nottingham Forest midfielder, only to see the chance cut out by a Latvia body. Notched an assist for fellow substitute Eze’s goal.”

The Express also handed the ex-Hull City man a seven, saying: “Won possession and supplied a great through ball for Eze to score.”

Finally, GOAL also gave the Irons ace a seven, saying: “Showed hunger to win the ball and then drive forward to set up Eze to score.”

What West Ham stars could join Bowen in England’s World Cup squad?

There are no standout candidates to join Bowen in the squad for next summer’s tournament in the Hammers squad.

Kyle Walker-Peters has two caps, but he has not played for his country since 2022, and Tuchel has a vast array of right-back options at his disposal.

It would take a huge swing for him to be named in the squad, as it would for Callum Wilson, who has not played for England since 2023.

The likes of Max Kilman, Ollie Scarles, and George Earthy are yet to receive a call-up and it is unlikely that changes anytime soon.

It seems likely that Bowen will be the only Hammers star in Tuchel’s team for the tournament, and that is probably justified.
