Maxwel Cornet misses West Ham United training ahead of Anderlecht clash
Maxwel Cornet missed West Ham training on Wednesday ahead of the clash with Anderlecht, but Jarred Bowen took part despite being a doubt.
The Hammers travel to Belgium for their third group game in the Europa Conference League this season, having won the first two games so far to earn maximum points.
But after being forced off injured in the weekend win over Wolves, Ivory Coast international Cornet missed training before the game and looks likely to be unavailable for the game according to Football London [5 October].
Jarred Bowen was also seen as a doubt after his gruesome hand injury against Wolves, but the England ace was seen training with his hand taped up and fingers together meaning he could still take part in the game.
David Moyes is likely to pick a strong team for the game, despite a Premier League clash against Fulham on Sunday afternoon in a hectic month of fixtures.
It’s been a long time coming for West Ham to get their summer signings up and running and Cornet finally got himself into the starting lineup, but now has been hit down.
His pace has been an effective weapon in recent games so it’s a big blow for him to miss out, but the positive is that Bowen’s injury seems unlikely for him to miss any game time.
After breaking and dislocating his finger following his goal against Wolves, it would’ve been horrendous luck if Bowen was forced to miss games having finally hit form after a poor start to the season where he was accused of having his head turned after summer interest from elsewhere.
But now Moyes must make a decision about how to best go replacing Cornet in the side while keeping the same intensity and carrying over the momentum from the win, while also resting key players to ensure they don’t get burnt out.
