Maxwel Cornet due to play 45 minutes in Under-21s game v Manchester City – ExWHUemployee
Maxwel Cornet is set for a return to action on Friday night playing for West Ham Under-21s against Manchester City, with the forward set to play 45 minutes in a bid to boost his fitness, according to ExWHUemployee.
The Ivorian winger, signed for £17.5m last summer, has been out of action since 1 October after suffering a calf injury against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Cornet took to his personal Instagram account last weekend to reveal his return to training with the West Ham squad ahead of their 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
The player was reportedly set to return for the Hammers’ 2-1 FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday [1 March] but sat out the game, but the player is now set for a morale-boosting return to the pitch.
According to a trusted Hammers insider ExWHUemployee [3 March], speaking on his Patreon page, Cornet is set to feature for the West Ham reserves on Friday evening.
He said: “Max Cornet is due to play in the PL2 Division 1 game against Manchester City at 7pm tomorrow at Rush Green.
“The player is expected to get at least 45 minutes as he builds up his return to fitness following six months out with a calf strain.”
Timely return
This is huge news for West Ham and David Moyes as Cornet being ready to play on the grass again is such a great sign and such welcome news to the Hammers’ ambitions for the remainder of the campaign.
While it’s important not to rush him back to action so soon, it is evidently clear Moyes desperately needs the former Burnley star’s attacking quality.
The Ivorian’s return will feel like a much-needed new signing for the East Londoners as the player certainly holds all the tools to single-handedly transform the club’s fortunes.
The next few weeks are pivotal in the club’s season as they look to steer clear of a needless relegation dogfight and to do that they’d need goals which Cornet certainly brings to the table.
Moyes will be desperate to see how he fares for the West Ham reserves on Friday night.
