Max Rushden cannot believe West Ham United controversy v Nottingham Forest
Max Rushden was left dumbfounded by the decision not to award Nottingham Forest a penalty against West Ham, with Maxwel Cornet potentially fouling Neco Williams in the penalty area.
The Welshman looked ready to unleash a strike as Cornet raced back to defend, subsequently stepping on the Forest full-back and bringing him down in the box.
Despite VAR checking, the Hammers avoided any further damage, at least until Callum Hudson-Odoi fired home in added time to secure a 2-0 defeat.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Sunday (18 February, 11:57am), he said: “There was another moment in the game as Neco Williams was fouled by Maxwel Cornet. It was an absolute stonewall penalty.
“I do not understand. I understand that they want to stick the referee’s onfield decision but it is just obviously a foul. He has trodden on his foot while running really fast – he’s going to notice that and it’s a foul. I don’t quite understand.”
Barry Glendenning added: “I’m presuming that the VAR has decided it isn’t a clear and obvious error.”
West Ham United avoid further damage at The City Ground
West Ham look to have been given a slither of luck during their 2-0 loss to Forest, but it was not enough to help the Hammers secure a point.
David Moyes’ side never looked like scoring at The City Ground on Saturday 17 February, with Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus all lacking a cutting edge.
James Ward-Prowse delivered the most dangerous threats to Matz Sels’ goal but even he failed to hit the target against Forest.

The 2-0 defeat marked three matches without a goal for West Ham, losing 3-0 to Manchester United before a 6-0 thrashing by Arsenal. The London side have slipped down the Premier League table to ninth after a string of poor results.
The pressure has increased heavily on Moyes, and rightly so, with the Hammers still searching for their first win since a 2-0 win over the Gunners in December. Something must change at London Stadium, but what that change is remains to be seen.
