Max Kilman reacts to Danny Ings controversy in West Ham v Manchester United – ‘I think he…’
Max Kilman believes David Coote made the right decision to award West Ham a late penalty in their 2-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday (27 October).
The Hammers earned a much-needed win on home soil thanks to a somewhat controversial penalty call in the dying embers of the game.
The penalty shouts from West Ham’s players were initially waved away by Coote but, after VAR intervened, he changed his mind.
Speaking to West Ham’s official club website (29 October) Kilman shared his thoughts on the foul.
“I looked at it back and I thought that was the right decision,” he said.
“Of course, that’s the referee’s job, and he had time to look at VAR, so I think he got it right.”
West Ham United need to use this win to turn their Premier League form around
The Hammers currently sit 13th in the Premier League and don’t look any better than a mid-table side despite their heavy summer investment.
Players such as Jean Clair-Todibo and Crysencio Summerville were brought through the London Stadium doors to try and bolster their chances of getting into European football with many fans believing their team were underperforming with David Moyes at the helm last term.
This season, it’s felt like things have been far worse while under the watchful eye of Julen Lopetegui.
Their win on Sunday against the Red Devils is arguably the Hammers’ biggest achievement this season and could be used for motivation throughout the term.

With the January transfer window now just around the corner, names such as Ademola Lookman’s are being thrown into the equation, which means things could start looking up for Lopetegui’s men soon.
If they don’t use the momentum gained from this win against Man United, however, they will likely be back to square one and casting nervous glances towards the relegation battle.
