Max Kilman question raised after what he did in West Ham v Arsenal

Tony Cascarino questioned whether Max Kilman has justified his £45million price tag after struggling in West Ham United’s 5-2 loss at the hands of Arsenal.

The defender was at fault for the fourth goal that the Hammers conceded against the Gunners on 30 November after he chose to lunge for an over-the-top ball and go to the ground rather than trying to stay on his feet and beat Kai Havertz in a foot race.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (1 November), Cascarino shared his thoughts on the form of the Englishman since his arrival at the London Stadium.

“Obviously some of the signings, well you know, some of them are not even available, I think West Ham are just an easy team to play against, Cascarino said.

“Initially, [Max] Kilman started really well and I thought he’d be a great signing.

“It’s not because of the goal he conceded yesterday but I thought Kilman’s not really had the regular partner and he hasn’t got to the levels of the £45million they spent on him.”

Max Kilman needs to find the form he showed at the start of the season for West Ham

Of all the Hammers’ summer signings, Kilman is the one that fans seem to have been the most happy with.

Aside from their 5-2 loss against Arsenal on Saturday, the centre-back has helped shore up the Hammers’ defensive lines tenfold and has proven why he was one of the first players the Spaniard brought in.

While his form has been mostly good this season, Saturday’s clash against Mikel Arteta’s men showed that the defender is prone to the odd mistake here and there.

The game against the Gunners was by far and away his worst showing in a West Ham shirt with the defender being at the centre of at least two of the goals his team conceded.

Only time will tell whether this is a new version of Kilman, but if it is, Lopetegui’s men could be in for a rather tedious season for the rest of the 2024/25 campaign.

Lopetegui will certainly be hoping the Englishman can find his form once again, otherwise he could end up paying for his poor form with his job.
