Max Allegri responds directly to West Ham job links today, answer is telling
Max Allegri has responded directly to questions regarding whether he is interested in taking the West Ham United job.
The vastly experienced head coach, who has been out of work since leaving Juventus earlier this year, is one of many names touted as Julen Lopetegui’s successor.
Allegri is said to have so far rejected every proposal to entice him back into work [Tutto Mercato Webb, 9 December], but he has for the first time now been asked specifically about the West Ham position.
As quoted by Football Italia [10 December], Allegri was asked about West Ham, and also his English skills, to which he replied: “How’s my English? Very good.”
Further probed on the West Ham speculation as he tried to leave an event, Allegri jokingly said: “Where’s the exit? Where’s the exit?”
Max Allegri managerial record
Allegri won the Serie A title with Milan and likewise five times with Juventus in his first spell in charge.
While his second stint with the Turin giants was not as successful, he is still an elite-level coach.
The 57-year-old may not have given a straight yes or no answer to the West Ham links, but his jovial response was still quite telling.
He laughed and joked about the whole situation, wary of what he could and could not say publicly.

Nobody really knows if West Ham chiefs have reached out to Allegri at this point, but if they haven’t then they should certainly do so.
His English lessons may still need some improving, but you cannot doubt his ability in the dugout.
Lopetegui may remain at the helm for now, but his exit seems almost inevitable and Allegri is the best option to replace him bar none.
