Max Allegri between West Ham United and Roma in new manager developments

West Ham United will face competition from AS Roma to appoint Max Allegri as Julen Lopetegui’s possible successor, according to Calciomercato.

According to the Italian news outlet [7 December], current Roma boss Claudio Ranieri will be influential in appointing his successor in Rome and is pointing The Friedkin Group towards the six-time Serie A winner.

The Italian ranks high on the list of candidates to replace Lopetegui [Alex Crook] at the London Stadium, but talks will not be straightforward – Calciomercato reported on Friday [6 November] that he is demanding a staggering £115,000 per week to become the new figurehead at West Ham.

Now David Sullivan must compete against Roma to secure a statement managerial acquisition if Lopetegui meets his inevitable end soon.

West Ham United will compete with Roma for Max Allegri

To say West Ham have been underwhelming under Lopetegui would be an understatement – four wins from 14 Premier League outings is no less than a disaster.

Regardless of the “El Sackico” result between the Hammers and Wolves on Monday evening [9 December], the supporters have seen all they need from Lopetegui – it is time to go.

Therefore, the next managerial appointment in East London needs to get things back on track; a composed head is needed to steady the ship as it heads towards the iceberg this year, and experience paired with an exciting brand of attacking football is required to appease the disgruntled fanbase.

Sullivan should look no further than Allegri, his history of sustained success in Italy blows any other potential candidate out of the water, and he would arrive in East London as the Irons’ most decorated managerial appointment of the Premier League era.

However, the emerging interest from Roma will bring fresh obstacles.

Allegri has never managed outside his native Italy, and his decision will ultimately come down to whether West Ham can meet his wage demands and whether he is willing to test himself in England.

Nevertheless, Allegri is enticed by the project waiting in East London, and talks are underway – it is up to Sullivan to sell the idea of West Ham to the esteemed manager and end his torrid record of managerial appointments.
