Max Allegri appointment: West Ham twist emerges as Lopetegui faces sack

West Ham United are unlikely to hire Massimiliano Allegri to replace Julen Lopetegui amid concerns over his English, according to Jacob Steinberg.

The journalist reported via The Guardian’s website on 6 January that the Irons could sack Lopetegui before Fulham’s visit to the London Stadium next Tuesday (14 January) and are monitoring Graham Potter as a potential replacement.

Edin Terzic is “cool” on the idea of taking the reins in East London, while Allegri is “unlikely” to be considered, although he was previously mentioned as an option to replace Lopetegui.

Another previous target Sergio Conceicao is no longer an option after he took charge of AC Milan on 30 December.

David Sullivan to axe Julen Lopetegui at West Ham

West Ham hoped Lopetegui would take them to greater heights when they announced him as David Moyes’ successor ahead of the season.

David Sullivan and co went all in on the plan, allowing the Spanish tactician to spend over £100million on new signings in the summer transfer window.

However, the plan has not gone according to plan as the Hammers are placed 14th in the Premier League after 20 games, sitting just seven points above relegation zone.

Sullivan has a habit of being reluctant to sack managers in the middle of the season, but it appears he has no option but to axe Lopetegui after the Irons lost 4-1 against Manchester City at the weekend.

West Ham lock horns with Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday (10 January) and it remains to be seen if Lopetegui will cling on to his job until then.

Furthermore, the former Sevilla boss is not on good terms with Tim Steidten anymore, asking the transfer guru to stay away from the training ground.

In other West Ham news, a transfer exit is imminent at the London Stadium with talks over a January deal progressing.
