Masuaku missing from international match because of ‘slight’ injury – report

West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku didn’t feature for his country last week as he picked up a ‘slight injury’, according to Claret and Hugh.

The 27-year-old was called up to the DR Congo squad for November’s internationals but he was nowhere to be seen in their matchday squad to face Angola.

His name was also removed from an article on the West Ham website that listed Hammers players who would be representing their country during the current international break.

Claret and Hugh are now reporting that their ‘independent sources’ have said Masuaku remained in the UK to have a ‘slight injury’ looked at.

This will come as a relief to Hammers fans who will have been wondering why one of their starting defenders was seemingly missing in action.

A question still remains over why the club or the DR Congo national side haven’t commented on the matter to ease any potential concern over the health of the 27-year-old.

It will come as extra relief to everyone connected with West Ham that Masuaku hasn’t contracted COVID-19. During this international break, we have seen several players test positive for the disease and the silence from Masuaku’s club and country may have had fans fearing for his health.

Masuaku has been ever-present in David Moyes’ side this season. He has only missed two minutes of Premier League football since he made his first appearance of the season against Arsenal.

He chipped in with an assist in the Hammers’ 4-0 demolition of Wolves which demonstrated the attacking ability and he has worked very well in Moyes’ new five-at-the-back formation.

Masuaku should be available for the Hammers’ game against Sheffield United this weekend as Moyes’ side look to continue their current run of good form in the Premier League.
