Martin Keown moots David Moyes and West Ham bang v Manchester City in Premier League
Martin Keown believes David Moyes will want to end “with a bang” in his final West Ham game against Manchester City, as shared in the Daily Mail (page 9, 18 May).
The Hammers face title-chasing City at the Etihad Stadium, with Pep Guardiola’s side needing to win to guarantee the Premier League title.
However, Keown feels Moyes will be hoping to cause an upset to mark the final match of his second spell as West Ham head coach.
“David Moyes will not want his farewell to West Ham and perhaps even the Premier League to be an afterthought,” he said. “He will want to go out with a bang.”
What are the chances of West Ham United upsetting Manchester City?
Moyes’s men will have to produce a markedly different sort of performance than they have generally done since the turn of the year if they are to avoid defeat away from home against City.
The Hammers have mustered just five wins in 24 games across all competitions in 2024, while also conceding five or more goals in a single game against Fulham, Liverpool, Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Chelsea in that time.
Suffice to say that their form has been poor – particularly away from home, with four of those five heavy defeats coming on the road.
However, porousness in defence has never been a characteristic of successful Moyes teams and he will hope the Hammers produce a version of themselves that is far more in his likeness than what they have shown recently.

If they do, they could end up having a decisive say in the Premier League title race, something that Arsenal will be hoping for already.
