Martin Allen: Kurt Zouma performances vital for West Ham top four bid

Martin Allen has claimed that Kurt Zouma’s performances are going to be pivotal if West Ham are to finish in the top four this season.

Last season, against all odds, the Hammers were in contention to finish in the Champions League places until the final few weeks and ended up in sixth place – enough to secure a Europa League spot.

While that may be the aim this season as well, Allen believes Zouma’s arrival can see them qualifying for the Champions League.

Speaking on the West Ham Way Podcast, the former Hammers midfielder said, “Zouma has that extra yard of pace. He will be crucial if we’re going to get into the Champions League.

“It’s a quality signing.”

Big claim

The Hammers would be in dreamland if they finished top four and looking at how they’ve started the season, one shouldn’t put it beyond them.

They’ve made some really good signings this summer, with Zouma being the pick of them and look to be in decent shape post the international break.

David Moyes has got all the players onside and is playing a style of football that will get the fans excited as well.

West Ham

The likes of Michail Antonio, Said Benrahma and Tomas Soucek have all started the season strongly and fans must be eager to see them in action again.

It will be interesting to see how Alex Kral, Nikola Vlasic and Zouma fit into the system, but we’re sure it’ll be an exciting watch.

The Hammers take on Southampton next and will be looking to make it three wins out of four.
