Mark Lawrenson shares what he’s heard about David Moyes future, predicts West Ham United v Aston Villa

Mark Lawrenson has claimed that he knows the West Ham owners are “very much behind” David Moyes despite their poor form this season.

The Hammers sit one point above the relegation zone, but extended their winning run to nine in a row in the Europa Conference League in midweek ahead of their weekend clash with Aston Villa.

Moyes’ future is a hot topic with many fans having turned on him, but Lawrenson told Paddy Power (9 March) that he knows the club are behind him and feels that will help the team to earn a 2-1 victory in a tight game at the London Stadium.

“I’ll go for West Ham in a tight game,” he said.

“I know the owners are very much behind David Moyes so I’ll have them to just win against Aston Villa who are very well organised. West Ham 2-1 Aston Villa.”

Hard work

Aston Villa have been an impressive side under Unai Emery this season, and West Ham will have to work incredibly hard and be at their best in order to get a result.

But there is no doubt that West Ham have got the quality in the squad to really compete with Villa and claim a much-needed win to help move us away from the relegation zone.

With that said, playing on Thursday in Cyprus in the Europa Conference League with a strong team is likely to take something out of the team and they will need to start well and be at their best as the game continues.

Moyes knows that his job is safe for now seemingly, with some reports even suggesting that he will be in charge next year if the club get relegated, but he can’t allow performance to slip and complacency to set in.

It’s a huge game and while fans are clearly split on whether Moyes is the right man to take the club forward, he is still in charge and the stadium needs to get behind the team to help them find the results they need to move away from relegation.
