Mark Lawrenson predicts result of West Ham vs Liverpool

West Ham United host Liverpool on Sunday in a top-of-the-table Premier League clash, and fireworks are expected.

The Hammers have only lost two league games in 2021-22, but they won their last three games, conceding just once and are heading into the game in fine form.

Liverpool are the only side yet to lose in the English top-flight this season, winning six games and drawing the other four.

The Reds clash is West Ham’s toughest so far, and Mark Lawrenson does not see them coming out unscathed, predicting a 2-1 defeat for them.

He wrote in his BBC column: “I have got a bit of a thing going with West Ham fans now where I always tip them to lose or draw, and then they win – so all those Hammers will be happy to see what I am going for here.

“There will be a great atmosphere at London Stadium because West Ham are doing so well and one of the big teams are in town.

“I think Liverpool will ruin the party, though. Jurgen Klopp’s side were very impressive against Atletico Madrid in midweek and, in terms of keeping the Hammers out, Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip will have the answers Klopp needs against Michail Antonio.”

Liverpool are the team to beat in the land right now, and David Moyes will be looking to celebrate his 1001st game as a manager with a victory.

West Ham beating the Reds will be a huge statement of intent, and it will definitely send a message across to other Premier League clubs that they are serious top-four challengers.

The Hammers have a team capable of going toe to toe with Jurgen Klopp’s men, but they need to be at their best to have a chance of causing an upset.

Antonio has bullied a lot of defenders so far this season, but he will be facing different opponents when Liverpool come calling.

The Merseysiders do not have the best defence at the moment having shipped eight goals, but they have the best attack having scored 29 goals.

West Ham need to make the most of their chances and contain Liverpool’s lethal attack to cause an upset, and an exciting game is anticipated.

In other West Ham news, Wayne Rooney has been blown away by ‘unbelievable’ Hammers man and made PL rivals claim.
