Mark Lawrenson predicts result of West Ham v West Brom
Mark Lawrenson believes West Ham will get the better of old boss Sam Allardyce when West Brom make their way to the London Stadium on Tuesday.
The BBC Sport pundit has predicted a 2-0 win for the Hammers after their victory at home to Burnley on Saturday.
Whilst doing his weekly predictions for the BBC, Lawrenson gave credit to David Moyes for the Hammers consistency this season.
He said, “West Ham are going well and they don’t concede many – Saturday’s win over Burnley was their fourth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.
“I know David Moyes well, and the improvements the Hammers have made this season do not surprise me. Give him long enough at a club and he will always sort the squad out.
“Moyes always looks to get teams right defensively first, then builds from the back. That’s what he is doing with West Ham at the moment, and I think they will be too strong for the Baggies.”
Tuesday’s fixture will be the Hammers’ 19th of the season, and three points would take them to thirty-two points.
It’s an immense improvement on the nineteen points West Ham had after nineteen games last season, which is as Lawrenson said is a testament to Moyes.
West Brom currently sit 19th in the table and have won just twice so far this campaign.
After running out 3-2 winners at the weekend in the Black Country derby, you’d imagine they’re coming into this one more confident than the table suggests.
They do however have the worst defensive record in the Premier League this season, conceding forty-one goals in their opening eighteen games.
They’ve definitely got the right man for the job in Big Sam, who’s installed belief into what was a depleted squad under Slaven Billc.
In other West Ham news, today marks eleven years under David Gold and David Sullivan.
