Mark Lawrenson predicts result of West Ham United Premier League clash v Wolves

Mark Lawrenson is backing West Ham to claim a huge three points against relegation strugglers Wolves in their Premier League clash this weekend.

The Hammers have lost five of their last six Premier League games, but picked up a massive win over Brentford in the FA Cup at the weekend to hopefully kickstart their season.

Now they’ll come up against Wolves who sit just one point off the bottom of the table, and Lawrenson told Paddy Power (13 January) that he believes their lack of goals will continue to be a problem in this game and he’s backing David Moyes’ side to claim all three points.

“Julen Lopetegui has got Wolves playing, and they should have won at Liverpool in the cup last weekend,” he said.

“I think goals will still be a problem, though.

“West Ham are just starting to pick up with the draw at Leeds being followed up with that FA Cup win at Brentford.

“They needed that, and the mood will have improved. Wolves 1-2 West Ham.”

Must win

West Ham absolutely must win this game at Molineux, because losing will not only see them enter the relegation zone again but it will also cost them all the momentum they’ve built up.

After a shocking run of results the last two games have been seen as relatively positive, securing a draw with Leeds at Elland Road and then beating Brentford just weeks after getting battered by the same team.

These are all signs of positive play returning and the feeling improving, but losing to Wolves and then falling into the relegation zone will see all that good work undone.

A win keeps the good mood flying and also moves the club away from the drop zone, while creating a bigger gap to those around them currently. The pressure Moyes has been under will be lifted too.

It’s a must win game, and if Lawrenson can be right for once with his predictions then it’ll be a great weekend for the Hammers.
