Mark Lawrenson predicts result of West Ham United clash vs Fulham

Mark Lawrenson has shared his prediction for West Ham United’s clash with Fulham on Sunday and says the visitors’ “honeymoon period” is over.

The Hammers picked up a huge win over Wolves last week to move out of the relegation zone, while Fulham suffered a drubbing at the hands of Newcastle when they were reduced to ten men inside the opening ten minutes.

And speaking to Paddy Power [7 October], Lawrenson believes that David Moyes’ side have finally built some momentum after their midweek win over Anderlecht followed the Premier League win, and expects them to get another win against the newly promoted side.

West Ham

“West Ham got a vital home win against Wolves last week,” he said. “Despite playing in midweek I think they’ll back that up here.

“Fulham are in an interesting period now, the honeymoon period’s over so it will be interesting to see if they can kick on and keep going. West Ham 2-0 Fulham.”

Momentum

Momentum is absolutely king in football, and it’s about time West Ham were able to build some this season after a torrid start that saw Moyes under pressure.

The win over Wolves was huge for the team and the situation that they were in the Premier League, but to follow it up with a hard fought win over Anderlecht despite rotating the team is certainly a positive.

Now everyone will be in good spirits, and coming up against a rival in a London derby that could see them earn three wins on the bounce for the first time this season would be huge.

Fulham will be strong and ready to arrest their own drop-off in form, and will be hopeful of causing an upset at the London Stadium, so the team must be ready and resolute.

A 2-0 win would be perfect as it would show a level of control, as well as another clean sheet and add three points to the tally, so fingers crossed Lawro is spot on with this one.
