Mark Lawrenson predicts result of West Ham clash v Liverpool

West Ham will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday (5 March).

The Hammers stunned the Reds in the corresponding fixture when they won 3-2 at the London Stadium, but Mark Lawrenson doesn’t expect them to repeat another heroics.

Liverpool are in superb form at the moment and are six points behind Manchester City at the top, having played a game less.

Lawrenson said, while predicted a 2-0 defeat for the Hammers, on the BBC Sports website: “I’m at this game and it will not be straightforward for Liverpool – they know how much of a handful West Ham are at their best after being beaten by them at London Stadium in November.

“The problem for the Hammers, however, is that they have to keep asking the same players to get them results, every week. As we’ve seen, Liverpool have got the squad now to rest players and still get the outcome they want.”

Difficult

After a disappointing defeat in the FA Cup, the last thing the Hammers need right now is facing Liverpool.

The Reds have won six league games in a row since their 2-2 draw against Chelsea, and are one of the contenders for the title.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are a machine and it would take more than a herculean effort to get something from this game.

The last time when the Hammers defeated them, David Moyes’s side were fresh and were playing with a lot of confidence.

However, the situation has changed a bit. The Hammers do not have a huge squad, and the players are tiring, mentally and physically.

West Ham are struggling to score, and against Liverpool, it is almost next to impossible to defend for the entire 90 minutes at Anfield.

The Hammers are also leaking in goals which do not add confidence. Anfield has not been a happy hunting ground for the Hammers in recent years, but the players must keep faith in their abilities.
