Mark Lawrenson predicts outcome of West Ham United v Chelsea

West Ham United will be involved in back-to-back London derby matches in the Premier League, starting off with the visit of Chelsea on Saturday (11 February).

Mark Lawrenson told Paddy Power (9 February) that both teams are in a bit of a “state of flux” at the moment and predicts a 1-1 draw for this game.

The Hammers appear to have improved recently having picked up two wins and a draw in their last three games in all competitions. Chelsea, on the other hand, have picked up just one win from their last seven games.

West Ham

“West Ham got a good point against Newcastle last time out but Chelsea’s draw with Fulham would have frustrated them,” said Lawrenson to Paddy Power.

“I think we’re in for another draw here. Both teams are in a little bit of a state of flux at the moment. West Ham look like they’re improving but Chelsea don’t really look like scoring too many. West Ham 1-1 Chelsea.”

Big chance

Both Chelsea and West Ham are struggling at the moment, but there are signs that the Hammers may have picked up their gears at the right time.

The Blues, meanwhile, are having a difficult campaign. They have picked up just two wins from their last 11 games in all competitions, and they are short of confidence.

This is the perfect time for the Hammers hurt them and secure all three points at home. The Hammers produced a strong performance against Newcastle United in their last game at St James’ Park, as they earned a 1-1 draw.

West Ham

The Hammers are 17th in the Premier League table with only one point above Everton. Another defeat here could see them drop to the relegation zone yet again, and the pressure will start mounting on David Moyes. It feels like a never-ending cycle.

However, a victory against Chelsea will give them the much-needed breathing space ahead of another crucial London derby clash against Tottenham the following week.

The Hammers signed Danny Ings in the January window from Aston Villa. He is yet to open his scoring account and would be looking to get his name on the scoresheet against the Blues this weekend.
