Manchester United want to sell Lingard for £20million amid West Ham interest

Manchester United have dropped their asking price for Jesse Lingard after West Ham cooled their interest after being quoted £35million, according to Daily Star.

The Red Devils want to free up more funds for new signings in a bid to further strengthen their squad and are willing to sell the 28-year-old England international for £20million, opening the door to a return to the London Stadium.

Lingard spent the second half of last term on loan with West Ham, and they were keen on a permanent deal, but his parent club’s initial asking price put them off the 29-cap England international.

Huge boost

The Red Devils are not short of attackers and have recently added Jadon Sancho to their squad.

Lingard did not make a single Premier League appearance for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side last season, and while that could change next term, he is far from being guaranteed regular playing chances.

West Ham have refused to pay £35million for his services, but we could be keen to do business if the fee is indeed nearly slashed in half.

Parting with £20million for such a quality player makes sense, but whether he is open to a return remains to be seen.

Lingard is not short of suitors, though, and more could now emerge after hearing of the last development.

He felt at home at the London Stadium during his brief spell, resurrecting his career and almost making it to the European Championship with England.

While he would fancy his chances at Old Trafford, joining us permanently could be the best decision for him, and it could be an interesting end to the summer transfer window from the look of things.
