Manchester United want straight Eric Bailly sale as West Ham target loan, could wait until deadline day

West Ham United have made contact over the potential signing of Manchester United defender Eric Bailly this summer, according to The Athletic.

The online outlet has reported on its website that the Hammers would prefer a loan where the Red Devils subsidise part of the high wages for the defender.

Manchester United are said to only want a direct transfer though, and are prepared to wait until deadline day for any potential exit as West Ham circle.

Writing in his latest snippet for David Ornstein’s column, Laurie Whitwell shared the news regarding a potential move for the Ivorian international.

“Meanwhile, United have fielded inquiries on Eric Bailly from several teams with talks progressing,” he wrote.

“West Ham, Marseille, and Monaco are among the latest to make contact. United would prefer a straight sale for the centre-back, but a loan is also possible.

“Affording Bailly’s wages will be a hurdle for all suitors, who ideally want a loan deal where United subsidise. United want a direct transfer however and are prepared to wait for deadline day.”

Needed.

West Ham United are crying out for new defenders.

Sunday proved it all over again as we crashed to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, making it two losses from two.

It wasn’t all down to our defence this one though, with a mountain of chances somehow going begging after the home side scored what can only be described as the scrappiest goal ever.

Bailly alongside Kurt Zouma would offer real pace, power and experience.

Ben Johnson doesn’t possess the ability to play centrally, and that isn’t his issue, it is more down to the fact that he simply was out of position from his usual full-back role.

With Craig Dawson, Angelo Ogbonna and Nayef Aguerd all still injured, new reinforcements are desperately needed.

Thilo Kehrer is said to be close to joining the Hammers, but should Bailly become available on deadline day, don’t expect David Moyes not to make his move.

This is certainly one to watch.
