Manchester United fear West Ham will wait till deadline day before moving for Lingard
Manchester United fear West Ham will wait till deadline day before tabling a low-ball bid for Jesse Lingard, according to Claret and Hugh.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of 2021-22, but the Hammers want to bring him back to the London Stadium on a permanent basis this month.
The Red Devils executives were looking to cash in on Lingard for around £10million in January, but they could be forced to do business for half of that with nobody yet to make an offer for the England international attacking midfielder, and they reckon the Hammers will look to kick them in the teeth by tabling a low bid in the closing hours of the winter transfer window.

Smart move?
Landing the attacker for £5million would be a real bargain, and it appears West Ham are ready to wait till Man Utd are left with no choice than to sell before making a move.
They clearly do not want to lose such a player for nothing, and that should play into the Irons’ hands.
David Moyes’ side were handed a huge boost during the second half of 2020-21 after Lingard joined in January, with his nine goals and four assists in 16 Premier League games pushing them very close to a top-four finish.

West Ham will be hoping he can produce something similar again this season, and after playing just 88 minutes of league football so far this term, he knows he needs to leave Old Trafford for regular playing chances.
Said Benrahma’s Africa Cup of Nations engagement should give Lingard a chance to establish himself in the Hammers starting XI, and he will be keen to impress in order to make the Three Lions’ World Cup squad later this year.
