Manchester City renew Declan Rice interest as West Ham United exit talk grows

Manchester City have renewed their interest in Declan Rice as speculation over his West Ham United future grows, report 90min.

The Telegraph claimed in 2022 (April 25) that Pep Guardiola was showing a strong interest in the 24-year-old England international. However, since then, talk of Rice moving to the Etihad has gone cold.

90min now claim (17 February) a move is now back on the cards as City eye a midfield overhaul in the summer of 2023. With Ilkay Gündoğan, Bernardo Silva and Kalvin Phillips all facing uncertain futures it’s understood the City hierarchy are working behind the scenes to work out their next steps.

West Ham

Despite their financial issues at present, it’s believed the Premier League champions would be able to fund a deal for the West Ham captain.

Inevitable

We all know the West Ham captain is destined to leave the club in the summer. With just two years remaining on his deal, it’s the last chance for the board to recoup a transfer fee which represents Rice’s full value. Sadly for the Hammers, their 2022/23 campaign has been a fatal blow to any hopes they had of keeping the 24-year-old at the London Stadium.

West Ham United

Had West Ham been playing in the Champions League or competing for trophies then the outlook could well have been very different. Rice is destined to play in Europe’s best competition having already shown he’s capable at the World Cup in Qatar.

If and when he does depart, the board must ensure the transfer fee is reinvested properly into the squad. West Ham heavily invested in the summer and it’s crucial the same level of spending remains in the club really want to push on in the coming seasons.
