Manchester City make new £7m Kalvin Phillips demand amid West Ham United January transfer interest
Manchester City want a £7million loan fee for the services of Kalvin Phillips this January amid interest from West Ham United, according to The Independent.
The newspaper reported on its website on Friday (19 January) that the Premier League champions’ asking price at the moment has proved to be a deterrent, particularly for Newcastle United who are limited by profit and sustainability rules.
Juventus also held discussions with City over a potential loan deal, while Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that he would be interested in signing the 28-year-old, but West Ham are the latest team to explore a move.

Reports suggest that the Hammers are now in the driving seat for a deal, primarily because Newcastle have failed to warm to the financial aspect of the deal [Ryan Taylor, 19 January].
Expensive deal
£7million is a lot of money to spend just to secure the services of a player for six months, especially when you consider that West Ham will likely be expected to pay all of Phillips’ wages for that period as well.
Loan transfers are often seen as the cheaper, easier-to-complete alternative to a permanent signing, particularly in the January transfer window, but this deal is an example of just how expensive these short-term fixes can be for teams.
Phillips would certainly add both depth and quality to David Moyes’ midfield for the second half of the season and should he rediscover his form, the 28-year-old could prove to be a real difference-maker at the London Stadium.

However, those above Moyes may not be particularly keen on spending upwards of £7million, only to be left with nothing to show for it come the end of the season. For this deal to become a no-brainer, the price of it needs to be reduced.
Hopefully, City will provide the Irons with a little bit of wiggle room, otherwise this deal could end up being a total non-starter.
