Manager of European heavyweights confirms January interest in West Ham star
West Ham United didn’t have to worry about any clubs coming in for their best players too much last month given the team’s woeful form this season.
That’s what happens when you’re supposed to be pushing for a top half finish but are instead mired in a relegation dogfight.
Despite that, though, David Moyes does have numerous talented footballers at his disposal – they’ve just not been playing like it recently.
However, it now appears that one of the team’s most important players was in danger of leaving the London Stadium in January.
Indeed, Benfica manager Bruno Lage confirmed, as per Time 24 News, that the player he spoke about being interested in signing at his last press conference was Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.
Odysseas Vlachodimos is the Eagles’ current first choice shot-stopper, but back-up Ivan Zlobin has also played seven times this campaign.
There likely would’ve been outrage amongst the Irons’ supporters if the Poland international had been sold, so it was fortunate that he remained in east London.
How big of a boost is Fabianski staying for West Ham?
Obviously we don’t know how serious Benfica’s interest was, and Lage makes it seem as if he is very happy with his options between the sticks now.
You wonder, though, whether the former Swansea City ‘keeper would’ve been tempted by the challenge of representing the Portuguese heavyweights? You couldn’t blame him if he wanted to get out of east London at the moment.
Selling Fabianski, though, would’ve destroyed any slim hopes the board have of ever fixing their relationship with the club’s supporters, while having a devastating affect on the club”s ability to stay up this term.
In other West Ham news, a former captain of the club has been speaking about the current situation at the London Stadium.
