Man City bosses make multi-million decision on West Ham United loan flop Kalvin Phillips
Manchester City have reportedly made the decision to “cut their losses” and sell Kalvin Phillips once he returns from his loan spell at West Ham, according to The Mirror.
The Mirror revealed on page 59, 4 April, that Phillips – who is also keen to leave City – could be available for £25million despite signing for double that figure in 2022.
Additionally, the midfielder is likely to be forced to accept a significant wage cut upon departing the Etihad Stadium, with former side Leeds United credited with interest should they secure promotion from the Championship – but the Whites would be unable to afford Phillips’ current £150,000 per week terms.
West Ham unlikely to make Kalvin Phillips move permanent
It is safe to say that Phillips’ move to West Ham has not worked out particularly well for either party.
Phillips’ failure to produce the form he displayed for Leeds and England two years ago is disappointing for both player and club – the former was hoping to revive his career in London and the latter were hoping to be bolstered in their push for European qualification and glory.
The 28-year-old has clearly suffered from a lack of regular minutes over the last two years, playing just 911 minutes – a little over 10 games’ worth – for City since his move in the summer of 2022.
That rustiness has been on full display in the midfielder’s nine outings for West Ham, where he has been trusted with more than 45 minutes of action in a game by manager David Moyes on just two occasions – a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on his debut and a 2-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest.

It seems in the best interests of all concerned parties that Phillips finds a new home ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
In other West Ham news, Darren Fletcher has given Kalvin Phillips some rare credit for his actions ahead of the 1-1 draw against Tottenham.
