Mads Hermansen could be forced into action as manager raises West Ham worries
West Ham could have a January call to make on Mads Hermansen after Denmark’s head coach discussed the goalkeeper’s current situation.
Hermansen has been poor for West Ham since signing permanently from Leicester City in the summer.
The goalkeeper started most of the Hammers’ first Premier League games this campaign and contributed negatively towards West Ham’s disastrous start to the season.
Hermansen’s poor performances have seen him dropped to the bench in recent games, as Nuno Espirito Santo has opted for Alphonse Areola instead.
Now, West Ham may have one of two decisions to make following recent updates regarding Hermansen.

Mads Hermansen needs minutes at West Ham ahead of World Cup
Areola hasn’t impressed all that much either, and there have even been calls for West Ham to start Fin Herrick in goal after the Irons recalled the goalkeeper from a sensational loan spell at Boreham Wood.
Hermansen‘s worst performance came in West Ham’s 5-1 defeat to Chelsea earlier in the season, but he’s also failed to impress in any of his other Premier League outings for the Hammers.

- Games: 4
- Clean sheets: 1
- Goals conceded: 11
- Average Sofascore rating: 6.25
Ahead of Denmark’s World Cup qualification match against Belarus, Hermansen’s head coach Brian Riemer discussed the West Ham goalkeeper’s current situation.
Riemer told Viaplay, as quoted by Hammers News: “It does [worry me]. Of course, when you are somewhere where you don’t play at all, it’s not good.
“I don’t think I need to stand here and say that it is [a good situation], because that’s logic. But Mads is a fantastically talented goalkeeper.
“It is clear that if you are somewhere where you don’t play any minutes, it will become a challenge at some point.”

With his international manager clearly concerned, the Danish keeper may now demand to either be played at West Ham or be allowed to leave in January, whether on loan or permanently.
West Ham would not miss Hermansen
If West Ham were to sell Hermansen, they would surely lose money on their £18m investment.
However, at this point, if Hermansen is himself unhappy with his current situation, then he needs to be sold.
The Danish goalkeeper has proved he is not Premier League-ready for the Hammers, and Nuno should be urging David Sullivan to invest again in a new number one.
Nuno has already shown his trust in Freddie Potts and other young players, and Herrick could be next if Areola doesn’t step up his game, because Hermansen is unlikely to play again.
Sometimes, signings just don’t work out in football, and Hermansen needs to be forgotten about and sold as soon as possible.
