Lukasz Fabianski update shared ahead of West Ham United clash v Liverpool

Lukasz Fabianski will be unavailable for West Ham United’s clash with Liverpool on Sunday 29 December, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via its website [27 December] that the goalkeeper was treated as a concussion case after a blow to the head during a 1-0 win over Southampton on Thursday 26 December.

It is understood that, while the 39-year-old was conscious and speaking at full-time will miss the game against the Reds due to concussion protocols ruling him out for at least six days.

Fabianski will be monitored closely and will have a routine check performed by external doctors before he can return to action, but he is definitely ruled out of the next game.

Alphonse Areola must step up for West Ham United after Fabianski blow

Fabianski has been one of the brightest lights for Julen Lopetegui in recent weeks, coming in to replace the underperforming Alphonse Areola in between the sticks.

Despite a massive gap in age, the Frenchman’s huge dip in form left the manager with no other option, but with the Pole using all of his experience, he’s been a good addition to the starting XI.

While he may not be so comfortable with the ball at his feet, his shot-stopping abilities are second-to-none at the London Stadium, giving the likes of Max Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos some much-needed reassurance.

Goals have been leaking for the Hammers this season, with only five other teams conceding more in the top flight, but the eight points from their last four games could have been a different story without him.

Of course, with Arne Slot’s team in brilliant form ahead of their trip to the London Stadium, the injury news could not be timed any worse, but this is the moment for Areola to step up again.

With Max Kilman being replaced against the Saints, and Tomas Soucek suspended for the game, it could be a long evening for the Irons.

In other West Ham news, a Hammers gem likened to Declan Rice could seal a “much-needed” loan in January.
