Luckhurst: Declan Rice wants Man Utd more than they want him
Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst reports West Ham midfielder Declan Rice likes Manchester United more than they like him.
It has been well documented that Man United are keen on signing a defensive midfielder this summer, and Rice is understood to be a target for them.
There have been reports that the Manchester outfit may consider using Jesse Lingard as a sweetener to get Rice to Old Trafford. [The Guardian]
Not once has Rice spoken about leaving or of preferring a move to Man United over defending champions Man City or his former club and Champions League winners Chelsea – who are also interested in signing him. [ExWHUEmployee]
However, Luckhurst is of the opinion that he wants a move to United this summer.
In his article for MEN, he wrote, “So if kids are depriving themselves of illumination, it cannot be a surprise that some of a football persuasion actually think Declan Rice could start the season for [Manchester] United.
“Rice is going nowhere this summer.
“The word is Rice likes United more than United like Rice.”
‘We didn’t want him anyway’
Man United and Luckhurst know that the club won’t be able to afford Rice’s transfer fee so are now briefing the media that they’re not particularly keen on signing him.
All reliable reports have suggested that Rice is hot property in the transfer market, but none about him intending to leave the London Stadium this summer.
Luckhurst was right when he said the midfielder is going nowhere this summer, but then made a baffling comment to follow it up.
Rice has got three years left on his deal and we’re confident that he won’t hold the club to ransom or skip training sessions to force a move away from the club.
He’s been a model professional since day one and we’re confident that he will stay beyond this summer and help us compete in the Europa League.
