Lucas Paqueta tells West Ham United fans to ‘calm down’ as fresh injury news emerges
Lucas Paqueta has urged West Ham fans to calm down after it was reported he would be ruled out for two months with a calf injury, claiming the number changes every hour.
The Standard [10 January] reported that the Brazilian would miss between eight and ten weeks with the new injury blow, although he has now laughed at that suggestion.
Paqueta’s reassurance will be welcome to West Ham fans, but as has been seen before, players are often not the best-placed sources to comment on their own injuries. The medical staff in East London will make the final call.
Replying to reports on Twitter [10 January], Paqueta moved to ease concerns, insisting: “That’s it, folks, every hour increases by a month, calm down.”
Reassurance is appreciated, but nothing is certain
While the reassurance from the Brazilian will be greatly appreciated to ease concerns within the fanbase, everything must be taken with a pinch of salt until a final verdict on the extent of his injury is reached.
Despite all of the claims, Paqueta still has yet to have seen an injury specialist to assess the severity and extent of his injury, so as things stand neither the confidence of the Brazilian nor the reported concerns of the club can be considered 100 per cent accurate.
The calf injury was sustained initially in the warmup before West Ham’s 2-0 victory against Arsenal at the Emirates before he attempted to play on and was forced off. Then, against Bristol City, he was forced off again after a reoccurrence of the blow.

Regardless of the amount of time Paqueta misses as a result of the injury, his recovery will need to be taken seriously and allowed time to be completed rather than rushing him back just to make things worse again.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes is desperate in his pursuit of a new transfer.
