Lucas Paqueta slammed by Brazilian media after what West Ham United star did v USA

West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta has been criticised for his performance for Brazil in a 1-1 friendly draw against USA on Thursday (13 June).

The Hammers attacking midfielder started as a number 10 for his country but failed to have a positive impact on the game.

Rodrygo scored Brazil’s only goal but Paqueta was not directly involved and after Christian Pulisic levelled the scores, that’s how it finished.

Brazilian outlet UOL has criticised his performance (13 June) which saw him substituted by Dorival Junior after 65 minutes.

They said: “Lucas Paquetá, in turn, practically didn’t touch the ball.

“I understand why the player should remain among the squad despite the betting investigation, but the football shown does not justify a place on the field.”

With the current FA charges against him, these international games may prove to be his last for a lengthy period of time.

Punishments could see him banned from football for a full year or even more if the organisers get their way.

With that being said, he isn’t taking advantage of his minutes for the national team with a poor performance against the USA overnight.

After taking just 36 touches of the ball across 65 minutes [FotMob], he was hooked after failing to contribute too much going forward.

With the Copa America coming up, Paqueta will be keen to maintain his starting spot ahead of the tournament but won’t have done himself any favours.

Lucas Paqueta’s potential ban could leave West Ham short of options in midfield.

It is clear to see that the Brazilian media weren’t pleased with his performance and have even questioned his betting involvement.

It won’t be a game that is remembered for his showing but he can still be hopeful of keeping his role in the set up this summer.
