Lucas Paqueta at risk of Premier League suspension in potential blow for West Ham
Lucas Paqueta could pick up a one-match suspension in the Premier League if he picks up a yellow card in West Ham’s match against Burnley.
The midfielder has had an excellent start to the season with the Hammers and has finally returned to form.
For his performance against Newcastle, Paqueta was rightly praised as he helped Nuno Espirito Santo pick up his first win as Hammers boss.
Now, the manager could soon see the midfielder suspended from his team.
Lucas Paqueta one yellow card away from suspension
Paqueta’s stats this season are impressive. The midfielder has hit four goals in 11 matches in all competitions.
Under Nuno, Paqueta has truly found his feet at West Ham, and could prove to be the difference-maker in their battle for survival.
However, the Brazilian international is now treading on eggshells if he is to avoid a suspension in the Premier League.
So far this campaign, Paqueta has picked up four yellow cards in the Premier League, with his last coming in the 3-1 victory over Newcastle.
Therefore, if the attacker picks up another yellow card between now and matchday 19, he will be suspended for one match in the division.
When does the Premier League’s yellow card rule reset?
As stated above, when a player in the Premier League is booked five times, they receive a one-match suspension.
However, there is a cut-off for this, and it will only happen during the first half of the campaign.
Therefore, if Paqueta avoids picking up a booking between now and game week 19, he will not pick up a suspension.
Nevertheless, this could prove to be an extremely hard task, with the Brazilian needing to avoid a booking for nine matches, after previously being yellow carded four times in 10 games.
