Lucas Paqueta and Nayef Aguerd out for weeks as West Ham United injury news drops

West Ham United duo Nayef Aguerd and Lucas Paqueta are set to be ruled out for weeks after picking up injuries in the draw against Chelsea, according to Claret & Hugh.

Both players were withdrawn from the match at the London Stadium, with Paqueta going off after five minutes with a shoulder injury and Aguerd substituted late on with a groin issue.

And both players are now set to miss the upcoming match against Tottenham on Sunday (19 February) – leaving David Moyes extremely short-staffed in defensive areas, with fellow defender Kurt Zouma also still sidelined with a thigh injury.

Claret & Hugh journalist Hughie Southon revealed on Tuesday (14 February) that a contact had told him: “They are both likely to be out for weeks rather than months.”

West Ham

Oh dear

This is not the news that Moyes would have wanted to hear, just as his West Ham United side looked to be returning to their form of the past 18 months.

A stretch of four games unbeaten in the Premier League has restored faith within the fanbase that Moyes is the man for the job, but losing two critical players such as Aguerd and Paqueta is never going to help.

The Brazilian playmaker looked to have begun to find his feet at the London Stadium since the turn of the year, and his goal at Newcastle was definitely a step in the right direction. Aguerd, meanwhile, has been carrying on where he left off with Morocco at the World Cup and has been a man possessed in recent weeks.

It is not just his individual performances that have been so pleasing to see, but also his influence on Emerson at left wing-back. With Aguerd tucked in behind him on the left side of a back-three, the former Chelsea defender has been able to bomb forward and display his attacking traits in full.
