Lopetegui sack latest: Remarkable West Ham twist from Rush Green

James Sharpe has reacted to the “remarkable” news that Julen Lopetegui is taking charge of West Ham United training on Tuesday.

The Hammers are yet to make a decision on the Spaniard’s long-term future in East London [Simon Stone] after initial reports emerged claiming he is set to be dismissed from his role.

Amid all the uncertainty, Sky Sports reported on Tuesday morning (7 January) that Lopetegui is at Rush Green to oversee training.

Daily Mail journalist Sharpe reacted to that news via X [7 January], saying: “Who’d have thought a man turning up to do his job could quite be so remarkable.”

What is happening with Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United?

West Ham supporters have been around the wringer in the past 24 hours after David Sullivan decided to take charge of the situation at the London Stadium.

At first, talkSPORT reported midday on Monday (6 January) that Lopetegui had been sacked by the Hammers following the 4-1 loss against Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday (4 January).

However, the bold claims have since been disproven, even more so by the Spaniard’s presence at Rush Green, but his chapter in East London appears to be ending soon.

It has since emerged that vice-chair Karren Brady is pushing for Graham Potter’s appointment this week [TBR Football] after The Times reported on Monday evening that he, indeed, has been offered the position.

After months of speculation and Lopetegui hanging on for dear life at the London Stadium, it appears the Irons board are finally ready to take drastic action to salvage what remains of the season.

While Lopetegui is continuing as usual at Rush Green, his future is not set in stone, and there are still questions about whether he will be in the dugout for the FA Cup third-round tie against Aston Villa on Friday (10 January).

The situation is developing by the hour, and certainly one all Hammers supporters will be keeping a close eye on throughout the coming days.
