Lopetegui in line for shock Man United appointment after Amorim sack update
Julen Lopetegui could be set for a swift return to Premier League management, having only recently been sacked at West Ham.
Life under Lopetegui was dismal for West Ham, with it at one stage looking as though they were going to face relegation down to the Championship.
Quite frankly, his tenure lasted significantly longer than it should have, ultimately costing the Irons a chance of making something from the current campaign.
The penny eventually dropped at the London Stadium, and those in power opted to sack the Spaniard, with Graham Potter already making huge improvements.
However, despite Lopetegui’s failure, it seems as though he could be in line to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United if they opt to part ways with the former Sporting boss.

Amorim on the verge at Man United
West Ham have already beaten Man United this season, though they haven’t been the only ones with the Red Devils losing 12 of their 27 encounters so far this season.
Amorim’s side sit 14th in the table, which, according to a report from Fichajes (3 March), is enough to have seen some concerns emerge over his ability to lead the team forward.
Premier League 24/25 | G | W | D | L |
Man United | 27 | 9 | 6 | 12 |
West Ham | 27 | 9 | 6 | 12 |
Man United are said to be “considering” the option to sack him, with Lopetegui claimed to be one of the three potential candidates to replace him, though any decision is unlikely to arrive soon with the report stating that the hierarchy will be monitoring performances over “the coming months”.
Given his failures at the London Stadium, it would be a massive surprise to even see him considered for a Premier League job so soon after leaving West Ham, let alone the Man United job.
Ironically, the report states that the Spaniard is liked as a result of his “ability to rebuild projects and make competitive teams,” which, if you were to ask any West Ham supporter, you’d get a very different answer.

Potter starting to stamp his authority at West Ham
Some concerns had emerged early on in Potter’s tenure at West Ham, but those have since been curtailed following the last couple of results.
An away win against Arsenal was closely followed by a home triumph against Leicester City, in which Potter opted to utilise a different formation.
Five at the back has become the style for the Irons, which has seen the likes of Aaron Creswell and others thrive.
While there were very few doubts at the time, it was certainly the right decision to move on from Lopetegui.
