Lopetegui gets new sack timeline at West Ham after what happened v Liverpool

Julen Lopetegui has two matches to save his future at West Ham United after the 5-0 loss against Liverpool, according to talkSPORT.

The news outlet reported via its Transfer Notebook (30 December) that the Hammers will determine the future of the manager after the clashes against Manchester City and Aston Villa.

Lopetegui is back to square one in East London with the scrutiny as loud as ever after the humiliating 5-0 thrashing suffered against Liverpool at the London Stadium on Sunday (29 December).

However, Lopetegui will have the games against Manchester City in the Premier League early in the New Year and the FA Cup third-round tie at Villa Park to argue his case to stay on.

Lopetegui has two matches to save his West Ham United job

Here we go again, West Ham fans.

Lopetegui had looked to have turned a corner after stretching his unbeaten streak in the Premier League to four matches following the 1-0 win against Southampton on Boxing Day, the longest of his short tenure.

The games against Bournemouth, Brighton and Southampton were believed to be must-win matches for the Spaniard [Sky Sports], and he passed with flying colours, winning twice and drawing the other.

However, the same was said for matches against Newcastle United and Arsenal [The Guardian], wherein he won 2-0 at St James’ Park before a 5-2 hammering by Mikel Arteta at the London Stadium.

Lopetegui is making a bad habit of taking one step forward and two steps back in East London, which has thus far ensured he has continued his underwhelming efforts to lead the Hammers up the Premier League table.

David Sullivan appears willing to break the mould and exact the change that the West Ham faithful have been crying out for since October, but still, the constant stance of threatening Lopetegui with an ultimatum to then go back on the promise is becoming tiring.

The match against Liverpool showed the gulf in class between the Irons and the Premier League elite – if the latest timeline for Lopetegui is to be believed, he stands no chance this time around of saving his skin against Manchester City.

In other West Ham news, Hammers supporters will unite with Tottenham and Man United fans in a fresh protest.
