Liverpool-mad pundit drops Ruben Amorim and Anfield view after West Ham United update

Norwegian pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft doesn’t see Liverpool hiring Ruben Amorim after the Sporting CP boss reportedly held talks with West Ham.

The Hammers have reportedly held talks with Sporting CP manager Amorim as a potential candidate to replace David Moyes at the London Stadium, with the Scotsman’s contract expiring at the end of the season.

However, the Portuguese tactician has also been linked with a move to Liverpool – but Fjortoft is sceptical that the Reds will appoint the 39-year-old.

The former Norway international, who’s a Liverpool fan, posted on X [23 April]: “[Regarding] Amorim. Conflicting reports now on X from experts. Does anybody think he will have talks with West Ham and then sign for Liverpool? Neither do I.”

Ruben Amorim may not end up at West Ham United or Liverpool

Amorim has enjoyed plenty of success in his native Portugal, leading Sporting to the league title in 2021/22 – the club’s first in 19 years.

His team finished fourth the following year but have bounced back this season and look set to claim their 20th league crown, sitting seven points clear of second-placed Benfica at the top of the table.

West Ham are keen to evolve into a more controlled, possession-dominant side, as well as lean on younger talent – and Amorim fits the brief perfectly, having done both at Sporting.

However, amid conflicting reports, it appears possible that the Hammers will have to look further down their shortlist for the right candidate to replace Moyes ahead of next season.

Equally, it does not seem that Amorim figures near the top of Liverpool’s own search for a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, who is set to step down this summer – leaving the door open for West Ham to make the Portuguese an offer he simply cannot refuse.

In other West Ham news, Paris Saint-Germain want to sign a Hammers star as a “priority” this summer.
