Latest West Ham injury update on Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice

West Ham are still “uncertain” of the availability of key midfielder Declan Rice ahead of Thursday’s (March 10) Europa League clash.

The Hammers travel to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium to face Sevilla in the first leg of their round of 16 clash with Claret and Hugh sharing the update.

Rice is a doubt for the fixture after falling ill to a “mystery bug” that saw him sidelined for the Irons trip to Anfield last time out.

Claret & Hugh were told: “He is feeling a bit better, though not 100 per cent. He’s been very ill with a mystery bug. Sore throat, not eating, but no temperature. Hopefully, he’ll be okay for Thursday.”

Another key player, Jarrod Bowen is “unlikely” to feature in the game also after injuring his heel on the weekend against Liverpool.

Typical

It is just West Ham’s luck that right before their biggest game of the season, their two best players are suffering from fitness issues.

Bowen isn’t playing, which has been largely accepted by Hammers. If he does make an appearance in Spain it would be a miracle after he hobbled off the field at Anfield.

Rice, however, could still make it and that is absolutely vital. He was a big miss in the loss against Liverpool and if he played the Irons could have and probably would have taken a positive result back to east London.

This game is different though, there is no making up the points elsewhere. It is two games and that is it and if West Ham lose away at Sevilla, they would be left with a mountain to climb for the return leg.

Rice probably will feature on Thursday. He has enough time to fight off his illness and could certainly do a job even if he isn’t feeling at his best. Hopefully the team gets a good result for Bowen to come back for the second leg and finish the job.
