Kurt Zouma impressed by Declan Rice’s performance in 2-1 win v Leeds
West Ham United continued their impressive start to the new Premier League season on Saturday, coming from behind to win 2-1 at Leeds.
An own goal from Junior Firpo and Michail Antonio’s late winner cancelled out Raphinha’s opener, and the Hammers players were delighted at full time after a hard-fought victory gave them their third win of the campaign.
Declan Rice, 22, enjoyed it, taking to his personal Instagram account to post after the game at Elland Road.
“Nothing better than a last-minute winner.”
Kurt Zouma was blown away by the performance of the West Ham midfielder, taking to the comment section to react – “What a player”.
Top player
Rice was one of the best players for David Moyes’ side against the Whites, and he put in another top shift as usual.
While Antonio has been getting all the plaudits for his heroics, the England international was spectacular too against a tough Leeds side.
Marcelo Bielsa’s players run all the time and never appear to tire, and coming up against such a well-drilled team is a massive task.
They went toe to toe with the Irons, but the displays of the likes of Rice made all the difference in the end.
Zouma has not been at West Ham for long, but he has seen what the in-demand midfielder is capable of in training and during games, and he knows quality when he sees one having played with a lot of world-class players at club and international level.
The Hammers boast of one of the best midfielders in the top-flight, and they need to hold on to him for as long as they can.
