Kris Boyd gushes over David Moyes live on Sky Sports after West Ham United European semi-final triumph

Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd has heaped praise on David Moyes for the “unbelievable” job he’s done at West Ham United after their Europa Conference League triumph over AZ Alkmaar.

The Hammers reached their first major European final since 1976 after they overcame the Dutch outfit on their own turf.

Having won the first leg at London Stadium 2-1, the Hammers were resolute and dogged in Holland, reaching the final in Prague on 7 June with a 1-0 second-leg win after Pablo Fornals made sure of the result late on in injury time.

And speaking live on Sky Sports Gillette Soccer Saturday [20 May, 1:44 pm], Boyd believes all the criticism of the former Manchester United is totally wrong and praised his achievements at the London Stadium, but also said that should the Hammers win the final, Moyes could call it a day.

He said: “If he wins that European trophy it’ll be a fantastic achievement.

“I think David Moyes is one of those managers, it doesn’t matter what he does, people will always criticise him and it’s wrong for me.

“You know, he gets to a level and you say he could have done this, he could have done that, it doesn’t matter really.

“The job he has done for West Ham United has been unbelievable, he’s got them into Europe, and he’s now got them into a final with an opportunity of winning a European final, it’s fantastic.

“A few weeks ago, people were saying that they were fighting to stay in the Premier League but they’ve managed it and I just look at Moyes right now he might just say, if I deliver that trophy I’m gonna have a little time out.”

West Ham United were simply sensational during their 1-0 win at the AFAS stadium after what’s been a rather difficult domestic campaign which has certainly brought plenty of criticism aimed at Moyes.

Moyes and his men simply came up trumps with their organised, dogged and resolute display when they desperately needed it.

Boyd is right, whatever Moyes seems to do, he’ll always draw criticism from it which is wrong. When he took over, the Hammers were in a really sorry state but looking at what he’s achieved over the years, you can argue it is incredibly stark, making them European finalists, finishing in the top eight on a couple of occasions and steering them away from the relegation spots after a rather tumultuous domestic campaign.

However, the job he’s done at the London Stadium has been nothing short of sensational and if he wins the Europa Conference League gong, he may just be hailed as a West Ham United icon.

It has been a difficult domestic season for the East Londoners but this performance showed just how far Moyes has taken them, reaching a first European final since 1976. Can they take that giant step further now?
