Konur: Patson Daka turned West Ham down to join Leicester
West Ham were keen on signing RB Leipzig striker Patson Daka until the end but he preferred a move to Leicester, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.
Sky Sports’ Fabrizio Romano hit the final blow on Hammers’ pursuit of the player when he tweeted on June 23 stating that Daka to Leicester was a done deal.
Regarding West Ham’s interest in the player, Konur stated, via his Twitter account, “West Ham wanted to finish the transfer until the last moment. However, Daka wanted to play for Leicester City.”
Sky Sports reported that the transfer is set to cost Leicester only £23 million – putting him perfectly into West Ham’s price range, but now the Hammers will have to look at other options.
Can’t help it
We did our best in trying to sign the striker but it just wasn’t meant to be. Daka’s had an unbelievable goal-scoring campaign where he’s bagged 27 in 28 league games and 34 in 42 appearances in all competitions.
Leicester are clearly in a better place than we are, and we’ve now got to find the right player to lead the line for us.

Tammy Abraham has been our preferred option in that department and we should be able to get that deal over the line this summer. The Chelsea striker has shown his worth in the past and has years of Premier League experience under his belt.
We’re hoping that Chelsea don’t drive up the player’s price as recently The Daily Mirror reported that Aston Villa are also looking to sign the England international and are willing to break their transfer record to sign him.
At £40million he will be well and truly out of our budget so if we’re serious about signing him, we’ve got to make moves immediately or else we’ll end up with a mediocre option who wouldn’t even be an upgrade on Michail Antonio.
