Kevin Nolan and Noble loved Johnson’s performance in 2-0 win v Rapid Vienna

West Ham United full-back Ben Johnson impressed in Thursday’s Europa League 2-0 win over Rapid Vienna at the London Stadium.

The 21-year-old Englishman was deployed at right-back after David Moyes decided to give Vladimir Coufal a deserved rest and with Ryan Fredericks still not fully fit.

It was Johnson’s second start of the campaign after he featured in the League Cup victory over Manchester United at left-back, and he put in a top shift against the Austrians.

Kevin Nolan and Mark Noble were both happy for him after the game, and according to Football.London’s West Ham correspondent Thomas Clark, they embraced the defender.

The journalist took to his personal Twitter account to share the lovely moment.

He said: “Mark Noble came on at the end and headed straight for Ben Johnson, embracing the youngster as they walk off the pitch.

“Johnson then gets a massive bear hug from Kevin Nolan.”

Huge potential

Johnson is one of the very few players capable of playing at both full-back positions comfortably, and David Moyes definitely loves having someone that versatile available to him.

The player is not playing regularly as he would have loved, but he is taking his chances and getting the job done whenever he is called into action, and he has everything it takes to become a top player in either position.

He still has a lot to learn, but he clearly has the quality and proved himself with a fine performance against Rapid.

With a lot of games to play this term, Johnson will get a lot of opportunities to impress, and he can start establishing himself as a key player for West Ham very soon.

Nolan and Noble loved the fact that he did not put a foot wrong, and they would love to see him keep improving and getting better.
