Karren Brady facts omitted from The Times story about her West Ham exit revealed

Karren Brady’s headline West Ham United exit is now increasingly under the microscope at the London Stadium.

Brady spent 16 years at West Ham, but not many Hammers fans mourned the news of the vice chair’s departure last week.

Protests have repeatedly sprung up against the ownership of Brady and chairman David Sullivan on the back of a declining set of results since their Conference League triumph in 2023.

The Apprentice star vowed to leave West Ham in a much better state than when she found it, but as Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side fight to stay in the Premier League, that may be up for debate.

Now, more details have emerged about what wasn’t reported when Brady made her West Ham departure.

The Times criticised over Karren Brady coverage

Before West Ham posted on their social media channels that Brady would be leaving the club, The Times broke the story.

Then, chief correspondent Martin Samuel wrote a lengthy piece about how she was a “loss for all football” and a “standard-bearer for women in a male environment.”

West Ham’s worrying finances
2024-25 financial year£104.2m loss
Turnover drop from 2023-24 to 2024-25£269.7m to £227.6m
Profit from 2023-24 season£57.2m

However, Private Eye has claimed that Times editor Tony Gallagher hired Brady to write a column when he was editor of the Sun, having a close friendship together.

They add that West Ham fans Gallagher and Samuel have been regular guests of Brady in the directors’ box at London Stadium.

Samuel is said to be a friend of Brady and her husband, all of whom allegedly had expensive meals together.

Brady won’t be missed at West Ham

Not much has gone right for Brady at West Ham in recent years.

In February, West Ham announced losses of £104.2million for the 2024-25 financial year, and that player sales were needed even if they stayed up.

The move to London Stadium, something Brady led on, has been deeply unpopular amongst West Ham fans and has never really worked.

And they have gone backwards since their European triumph. The board has become less and less popular, with many West Ham supporters wanting them all gone.

There have been some big highs, but right now, the lows seem to be taking over.
