Julen Lopetegui update drops in Germany in ‘Crucial’ West Ham United manager news

West Ham United are negotiating “crucial” details with Julen Lopetegui to succeed David Moyes at the London Stadium, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported on Monday (6 May) that Bayern Munich once again contacted the former Wolves boss today, but the Spanish manager declined their approach as talks continue with the Irons.

Lopetegui is the Hammers’ top candidate and although he is a concrete option for the German giants ahead of the summer, he is focused on talks with West Ham as the final details are agreed between the parties.

Writing on X, Plettenberg said: “Bayern got in touch again this morning through Max Eberl – confirmed. As first via David Ornstein. Bayern inquired again today if Lopetegui is available – as he was a concrete option.

“But Lopetegui declined for this moment because he’s currently the top candidate at West Ham and crucial details are already being negotiated. Lopetegui has been on the list of Bayern since a few days ago, as revealed last Friday.”

Will Julen Lopetegui choose West Ham United or Bayern Munich?

The Hammers have seen first-hand this season just how difficult it is to find a new manager in the current climate, especially as so many of Europe’s biggest teams are making changes in the dugout this term.

However, it seems as though the Irons have finally got their man, with Lopetegui excited by the opportunity to take over the reins at the London Stadium and an appointment seemingly moving closer hour after hour.

The former Real Madrid boss won’t have been many supporters or pundits first choice to succeed Moyes and that is understandable, but it would take an incredibly late twist for any other manager to enter the race now.

Hopefully, some clarity will emerge from the football club itself sooner rather than later as it seems incredibly disrespectful to Moyes that these developments have played out in public without an official announcement.
