Julen Lopetegui stance on West Ham sack shared, says he’s achieved 2/3 things

Julen Lopetegui believes he has achieved two out of the three tasks he was asked to achieve when appointed West Ham United manager, according to Sky Sports News.

Nick Powell reported via the broadcaster on Thursday [5 December, 2:58pm] that Lopetegui is set to stay on as Irons head coach for the game with Wolves next week.

Powell went on to state, via sources close to the Spaniard, that Lopetegui believes he is only one objective short from pulling off everything he was asked to early in his tenure.

“When he was hired he was asked to do three things – integrate nine new signings, some with no experience at highest level; two, change the system they were playing; three, win games on more consistent basis.

“Lopetegui is aware there’s more room for improvement, but believes he’s hit two of the three objectives.”

When will West Ham decide on Julen Lopetegui future?

All the talk was that a decision on Lopetegui would be made one way or another before the weekend, and that now appears to be the case.

Many West Ham fans would have been hoping for the ‘corner flag’ statement to pop up on the club’s website.

Instead, it seems the club have leaked this through to various media and that Lopetegui will be staying on for at least one more game.

That decision will not be popular with the majority of the fanbase, but it is fair to say that match is now win-or-bust for the Spaniard.

Defeat to a poor Wolves side really will be the end. If Lopetegui can win that, though, then maybe, just maybe, there is a future for him in East London.

It may well be that the club do not have any replacement lined up, and therefore sticking with the man in charge for another week could make sense.

Either way, it now appears we have our answer as to who will be in charge against Wolves four days from now.
