Julen Lopetegui shares what he told West Ham United players after loss v Wolves
West Ham United boss Julen Lopetegui has admitted that there were “not a lot” of good moments during the Hammers’ 3-1 loss to Wolves in pre-season.
The London-based club was taking on Gary O’Neil’s wolves in the Stateside Cup and failed to show the best of their ability.
Speaking to West Ham’s official club website, Lopetegui outlined his future expectations for his team.
“There were not a lot of good moments,” said the Spaniard.
“We have to do a lot better and a lot of much better things to win the matches, so that’s why I told the players the demands will be higher and we have to try to translate this in the next three weeks.
“We have to analyse this match with calmness, but always knowing that sometimes this is not a bad thing that this happens in the pre-season.
“I want us to know more about our needs, and for us to know we have to align and work together for the first match in the Premier League that is more or less in three weeks.”
West Ham United need to make further additions to their squad
Of all the Premier League teams, the Hammers have surprisingly been one of the most active in this season’s summer window.
The club has lost the likes of Flynn Downes and Ben Johnson whilst players such as Luis Guilherme and Max Kilman have both arrived.
Despite these additions, there is still plenty of work for the Hammers to do before the start of their top-flight campaign.
At present, the London-based club only has one natural right-back in Vladimir Coufal and they still need further reinforcement up top.

Whilst the likes of Reiss Nelson and even Kyle Walker-Peters have been linked with moves, a concrete bid [Sunday Mirror, 28 July, page 68] has only been made for the former.
Should the club manage to add the duo to their ranks, they will find themselves in a far better place than last term and might even manage to outperform last season’s ninth-placed finish.
Which, at the end of the day, should be the club’s main goal in order to have another go at European football.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made a ‘convincing’ approach for Crysencio Summerville.
