Julen Lopetegui set for transfer talks with West Ham as announcement plan emerges

Julen Lopetegui is set to hold transfer talks with the West Ham recruitment team on Wednesday (22 May), according to Sean Whetstone.

Writing via his West Ham Football account on X (22 May), Whetstone revealed that Lopetegui will meet with Tim and Moritz Steidten to discuss the club’s summer recruitment strategy.

It comes after the Evening Standard reported on Tuesday (21 May) that the 57-year-old will be announced as the new West Ham boss later this week.

One man who will not be part of Lopetegui’s team at the London Stadium is David Moyes Jr, with the scout set to be cut loose by the Hammers following his father’s departure from the club.

Julen Lopetegui ready to make his mark at the London Stadium with West Ham

Lopetegui is wasting no time in East London.

Although his arrival at the club is yet to be officially announced, it appears as if transfer talks are already well underway.

This is a big summer for the Hammers, and Lopetegui has some massive shoes to fill at the London Stadium.

While David Moyes’ time in charge ended rather underwhelmingly, it doesn’t take away from everything the 61-year-old achieved with the club.

After such a lengthy spell in charge of the Hammers, Moyes has created a team built under his identity.

To be as successful as his predecessor, Lopetegui will need to now build a team made up of his own players, which could lead to plenty of incomings and outgoings this summer.

While that might prove to be a long, painful process, West Ham supporters can rest assured in the knowledge that their soon-to-be boss is already in the process of setting out plans for his first summer in charge.

In other West Ham news, Jarrod Bowen has sent a thank you message with an exit from the club now all but complete.
